Amazon recently announced the royalty rate being lowered from 60% to 50% for books priced under $9.99.

This is actually good news!

The market had become flooded with 'race to the bottom' books. This means publishers are competing on price instead of what the value of the book. That race to the bottom created great sales for books (especially Sudoku) priced at dirt cheap prices. And now that approach is done. At least for people who want to make money from this.

As it stands now if you have a puzzle book you are selling, for example, at $7.99 - your royalty is now just pennies. And that's a problem! You can't ever break even or profit from ads at that price point.

What about marketing our books?
From our point of view, the marketing is directly related to the elements of your book and the product page it is on. For example you need a great title, a great description, and include the A+ content section. We show all of this in the coaching.

If you are active on social media then you likely have a base of customers ready to purchase your books. Some successful publishers include their social following in the marketing. Not everyone has this option, and that's okay if you do not.

Running ads is also a vital, although optional, part of marketing.

Can you explain more about running ads?
Sure. Amazon has its own internal ad network. The ads are specifically structured to sell your books, and this makes the ad setup and tracking easier than other networks such as Facebook or Google. There are a few types of ads: keywords, categories, etc. Ads do require a budget. We suggest starting low at first to get used to how the ads work. A budget of a few dollars a day is fine to start. Most people start with $5 per day. You have all the control. You can pause or stop the ad whenever you wish. In fact optimizing ads as they run is a key part of making profitable ads.
